In a strong move to enforce student safety and infrastructure norms, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has suspended the affiliation of G D Goenka High School, Sohna (Gurugram) for the 2026–27 academic year. The action follows a detailed inspection revealing serious breaches of CBSE affiliation guidelines, including campus-sharing, safety lapses, and non-segregated infrastructure. The Board has also issued a clear warning to all CBSE-affiliated schools, emphasising zero tolerance toward institutions that compromise on student safety or violate infrastructure rules. During its inspection, CBSE found that the school: Was sharing its premises with two other institutions Did not have a pucca boundary wall or proper segregation Had multiple institutions operating from all floors of the same building Even had a university programme running on the top floor According to the Board, such an arrangement exposes schoolchildren to bullying, harassment, and unwanted interactions with older students from other institutions. This violates fundamental safety norms mandated under CBSE’s Affiliation Bye-Laws. CBSE stated that a school must maintain a secure, exclusive campus, ensuring outsiders cannot access the premises without authorization. In its notice, CBSE highlighted: “A school campus shared with other entities, without a proper boundary wall or physical segregation, exposes students to potential risks. It is imperative that the school maintains a fully secured campus not accessible to outsiders.” CBSE observed that the school is currently unable to segregate the institutions or establish separate campuses in the short term, leading to the suspension order. Despite acknowledging the school’s attempts to rectify the issues, CBSE has passed strict measures to safeguard students and fix the violations: The school has been given this period to completely separate its infrastructure from the other institutions. During the suspension year, the school cannot admit new students in Classes 9 and 11. Students already enrolled in Classes 9 to 12 will be allowed to continue their studies. The school must: Construct a 6-foot-high concrete boundary wall around the entire campus Ensure separate entry/exit gates from the main road Remove all other institutions from its premises Ensure exclusive use of buildings, classrooms & playgrounds for G D Goenka High School students Stop sharing human resources, staff, or teachers with any other institution Establish a Composite Science Laboratory as per CBSE norms Maintain all mandatory CBSE records and SOPs strictly in line with Affiliation Bye-Laws 2018 This decision sends a strong message to all CBSE-affiliated schools across India. The Board has made it clear that any compromise on student safety, infrastructure norms, or campus segregation will lead to strict disciplinary action, including suspension or withdrawal of affiliation. Why Was the School’s Affiliation Suspended?
