The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially increased board examination fees for Class 10 and 12 students, effective from the 2025–26 academic session. The revised fee structure, approved in June 2025, marks CBSE’s first major hike since 2020.
According to board officials, the decision was taken to meet the rising costs of digital evaluation, examination logistics, and administrative operations. The updated rates will apply to students appearing for the February 2026 board exams.
This translates to an average hike of 7–10%, depending on the number of subjects a student opts for.
Officials stated that the increase for international candidates reflects higher operational and administrative expenses abroad.
CBSE clarified that the hike is aimed at improving examination quality, security, and digital services. The board has been investing in:
“Examination costs have risen significantly since 2020. This revision ensures smooth and transparent operations,” said a senior CBSE official.
