The Central Board of Secondary Education announced that the registration of the CBSE Board School Games Welfare Society (CBSE-WSO), based in Agra, has been cancelled by the competent registrar authority. The move follows findings that the society had been using the “CBSE” name and identity without authorisation, creating an impression of official backing for its activities.
CBSE has clearly stated that it has no association, affiliation, endorsement or connection with CBSE-WSO, and any claim suggesting otherwise is invalid. The Board has emphasised that the use of its name by the society was misleading and could confuse schools, students and parents about the legitimacy of its sports events and programmes.
In its latest notification, CBSE has advised all affiliated schools to treat any communication, circular, offer or invitation issued by CBSE-WSO as unauthorised. Schools have been instructed not to engage with the society in any form, including sponsoring or sending students to tournaments, championships or other sports activities it claims to organise under the CBSE name.
The Board has also urged school managements to exercise due diligence before associating with any external body that uses the CBSE name or logo. Schools have been told to rely only on information and schedules circulated through official CBSE communication channels for sports, games and co-curricular events.
The cancellation and advisory come in the context of earlier action by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), which had suspended its affiliation with CBSE-WSO and another body, the International Board School Sports Organization (IBSSO). Despite this, SGFI has maintained CBSE’s participation through its official sports unit, ensuring that eligible CBSE students can still access recognised federation-level events via authorised channels.
CBSE’s latest clarification aims to protect students and schools from getting involved in unrecognised or potentially non-compliant sports events conducted under the misleading use of the Board’s name. The Board’s stand also seeks to ensure that only duly approved CBSE sports activities are treated as valid for certificates, records and future sports opportunities for students.
CBSE has advised schools to immediately stop any ongoing or planned collaboration with CBSE-WSO, including registrations, participation fees or promotion of its events. Schools that have recently received invitations or communications from the society have effectively been told to disregard them and not circulate them among students or parents.
Parents and students are encouraged to confirm the status of any sports meet or competition through the concerned school and CBSE’s official notices before participating. For any clarification, CBSE has directed schools to contact the Board only through its recognised official communication channels, as listed on its website and formal circulars.
