Who Can Apply as a CBSE Private Candidate in 2027?
This is the question most students ask. A private candidate is a student who is not studying in a regular CBSE school for that exam. CBSE does not let everyone apply as a private candidate. You must fall into one of the allowed categories.
According to the latest reports, these students can apply:
• Essential Repeat (ER) candidates: students whose result was declared "Essential Repeat" in recent years.
• Fail candidates: students declared failed in earlier years. Reports mention the years 2021 to 2026.
• Compartment candidates: students who did not clear one or two subjects.
• Absent candidates: students who missed the exam in earlier years.
• Improvement of performance: students who passed in 2026 and want to improve marks in selected subjects.
• Additional subject: students who passed in 2026 and want to add one more subject.
• Medical cases: some candidates who could not appear in 2026 due to medical reasons, as specified by CBSE.
CBSE Private Candidate Exam Fee 2027
The fee depends on where you live and how many subjects you choose. These are the slabs reported for 2026 and carried in the 2027 reports. Indian additional-subject and practical fees have been confirmed in 2027 coverage. Please check the live portal for the final amount before paying.

Documents and Details to Keep Ready
CBSE has said in the past that you do not need to send original mark sheets or certificates. But you must have the right information at hand while filling the form.
• Roll number and year of your last CBSE exam
• Previous admit card
• Previous provisional marksheet or mark statement
• A working email ID and mobile number (you will get an OTP)
• Scanned passport-size photograph
• Scanned signature
• Online payment option (UPI, net banking, debit or credit card)
If you appeared in the 2026 exam, most of your details may appear automatically. If you appeared in earlier years, you will have to type them yourself.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
• Wrong category. Choosing the wrong category can get your form rejected.
• Wrong exam city. It cannot be changed later, so choose one close to your home.
• Wrong personal details. Edits are generally not allowed after payment.
• Blurry photo or signature. Use clear, correctly sized scans.
• Waiting for the last day. Slow servers and payment failures are common near deadlines.
• Confusing this form with the school LOC. Regular students are registered by their schools through the List of Candidates (LOC), which has a different deadline (October 21, 2026). Private candidates apply on their own.
