Major Update in Eligibility — 2025

A major update this year: the minimum educational requirement for Paper I (applicable for teaching Classes 1–5) has been revised. The earlier provision allowing a B.Ed degree has been removed.
Now, to appear for Paper I, candidates must have:

  • Passed Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks, and
  • Completed (or be in the final year of) a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) or equivalent.

For Paper II (Classes 6–8), candidates need graduation (minimum 50% marks) along with B.Ed or equivalent teaching qualification.

Also, there is no upper age limit to appear for KARTET 2025.

Exam Pattern & Qualifying Marks

The exam has two separate papers — Paper I for Classes 1–5, and Paper II for Classes 6–8.

Each paper consists of 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), for a total of 150 marks. There is no negative marking.

Paper-wise subject distribution:

  • Paper I: Child Development & Pedagogy; Language I & II; Mathematics; Environmental Studies (or Social Studies for visually impaired) — each section with 30 questions/marks.

  • Paper II: Child Development & Pedagogy; Language I & II; Mathematics & Science or Social Studies (60 questions/marks for subject area)

Qualifying marks:

  • General / 2A / 2B / 3A / 3B categories: Minimum 60% (i.e., 90 out of 150)

  • SC / ST / Category-1 / PwD (Differently-abled) / Special-needs: Minimum 55% (i.e., 82.5 marks)

Candidates who meet or exceed these marks will obtain the KARTET eligibility certificate, valid for future teacher recruitment.

Why KARTET 2025 Matters

The KARTET exam serves as a gateway for aspirants aiming to become teachers in government, aided, and private schools across Karnataka — for classes 1 through 8.

With the 2025 update, the revised eligibility — especially removal of B.Ed for primary teaching (Paper I) — reflects emphasis on specialized diploma training (D.El.Ed) for primary-level educators.

Qualified candidates will receive a lifetime valid TET eligibility certificate, enabling them to apply for teacher recruitment whenever vacancies arise under state educational institutions.
