The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a major step to revive traditional Indian knowledge systems by setting up two new Adi Shankaracharya Gurukuls. These Gurukuls will offer education in Sanskrit, Yoga, and Vedic Studies, state School Education and Transport Minister Uday Pratap Singh said.

The institutions will be built in Rajgarh and Narsinghpur districts and will follow the model of the Centre’s Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Veda Vidya Pratishthan (MSRVVP) — a national body dedicated to preserving and promoting Vedic learning.

What Will Be Taught in the New Gurukuls?

The upcoming Adi Shankaracharya Gurukuls will provide:

  • Sanskrit learning

  • Veda and Vedic literature studies

  • Yoga education

  • Traditional Gurukul-style learning environment

The minister also said that cow protection and related research will be introduced as a subject later. According to him, cows contribute to creating a healthy environment and play a key role in India’s traditional knowledge system.

What Is MSRVVP?

The Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Veda Vidya Pratishthan (MSRVVP) works under the Ministry of Education and helps preserve Vedic traditions by supporting Veda Pathshalas across India.

The new Gurukuls in MP will follow the same structure.

Big Infrastructure Push in MP Education

Along with the announcement of Gurukuls, the minister shared several updates about the state’s education infrastructure:

  • A 20-storey building will be constructed in Bhopal to accommodate all offices of the School Education Department.

  • MP plans to transform 275 Sandipani schools and 799 PM Shri schools into Model NEP Schools.

  • Out of 275 Sandipani schools, 79 buildings are already complete, and the remaining work will be finished by March.

Teacher Recruitment & Training Updates

To address the shortage of teachers, MP has undertaken multiple steps:

  • Recruitment is going on for 30,281 teacher vacancies.

  • Around 24,000 teachers have received orders for higher post charge.

  • More than 20,000 surplus teachers have been shifted to schools that needed staff.

  • 76,325 guest teachers have been hired through a fully online and transparent system.

  • Class 12 pass percentage improved from 63% to 74.56%.

Vocational Education Expansion

MP will introduce vocational education in 100% of higher secondary schools within the next two years.
Currently, 3,367 schools offer vocational courses, and enrollment has increased from 4.05 lakh to 5.98 lakh in one year.

Support for Students: Textbooks, Laptops & More

To boost enrolment in government schools, the state continues to provide:

  • Free textbooks

  • Laptops

  • Two-wheelers for meritorious students

Last year, textbooks were delivered in April, ensuring a smooth start to the academic session.
This year, book fairs will be held at block level to help students buy books at minimized rates.

Books Translated Into Local Languages

In the past two years, 49 books have been translated into 12 regional languages, including Bundeli, Bagheli, Malvi, and Nimadi — promoting inclusive learning.

Transport Department Updates

The minister also addressed issues related to the Transport Department:

  • A probe will be conducted into corruption-related videos from border check posts.

  • Action has already been taken against 13 officers; 6 suspended.

  • Border check posts have been closed, and mobile checking is now in place.
